Im Clan_Geumpo Historic House

Geumpo Historic House sits at the foot of the dreamy Bibongsan Mountain in Geumso-ri, Imha-myeon, Andong-si. The clear streams of Gilancheon flows like silk and a hill with bamboo forest is at the center of the village. According to a fable, a phoenix visited the bamboo forest to eat bamboo seeds. Geumpo Historic House is a traditional house built in the 19th century during the late Joseon period, and was named after Geumpo Im Jeonghan(1825-2884). Sir Geumpo was talented poet and literary, left an academic legacy publishing Geumpoyugo anthology. Sir Geumpo’s father was a commander at Gyeongbokgung Palace, and his grandfather was a commander at Gyeonghuigung Palace. His great grandfather received an edict from the deputy mayor and did fealty to the nation. Keunmyeong, the  6th great grandfather of Geumpo is Tongjeong, who studied under Galam Lee Hyeonil and later devoted himself to training younger students as a literator.

Geumpo Historic House is selected to be a part of the Traditional and Cultural Heritage Brand Business with 47 participating Historic Houses such as Toegye Head House and Nongam Head House. The purpose of the business is to maintain and pass down the valuable cultural heritage to the next generations and to further promote the ancestor’s wisdom and culture to locals and foreigners. The square layout of Geumpo Historic House is typical of traditional houses, and unusually high Sarangchae speaks for the owner’s status. A small size Samsin Alter(the legendary three founders of Korea), Seongjusin Alter(family God), backdoor in the backyard, and Jangdokdae(Korean traditional crocks of sauces and condiments) well preserves its history. Traditional fermented food, Someoriaegu (Ox head soup) with 200-year recipe, Andongpo handcraft workshop experience, and Andongpo folklore classes are available at various site. Andongpo sachet, folklore drawing on fan, and Andongpo weaving (Hemp Cloth) workshops are available all year round.

Geumpo Historic House holds 14 edicts, 12 Donguibogam: Principles and Practice of Eastern Medicine, 12 book of manual on medicine, Memoir of Haneollok, Memoir of Honam Yeoneorok, journals, codices. The information on the relics of about 500 documents are available on Korean Studies Advancement Center website.
